Trinamool BNP Secretary General Taimur Alam Khandaker and the party candidate for Narayanganj-1 has accused Awami League candidate Golam Dastagir Gazi of giving out money to people to ensure votes.
“There are five candidates in this constituency loyal to the government including the Boat and the independent candidate,” he said at a press conference at his residence in Rupganj on Saturday.
Stating the Rupganj is in the hands of land grabbers, he said: “These land grabbers of Rupganj have divided themselves into two teams and are buying votes in exchange for money. This is an unethical practice which is confusing people. I urge the Election Commission to stop this vote buying or cancel their candidacy.”
“These land grabbers are trying to influence the election with their wealth to make their candidates win. I will participate in the national polls regardless. I will disclose the activities of the candidates of the ruling party to the people.”
Criticizing the government for not being able to lead the country successfully, he said: “There has been no action against violations of the electoral code of conduct through the distribution of money for vote. In which sense is the government saying it will ensure a free and fair election?”
He also criticized the BNP for not participating in the 12th national parliamentary election.
