Update : 03 Jan 2024, 11:15 PM

Khulna BNP leaders and activists have taken a symbolic oath and called on the deceased not to rise from their graves to cast their vote during upcoming polls.

The symbolic oath was taken during a visit to the Tutpara graveyard in Khulna on Wednesday.

Later, they distributed leaflets on Dilkusha Road in Tutpara urging support for their demands.

While distributing leaflets, BNP leaders said the government's vote-rigging has reached such a level that at various times, dead people had been shown as alive to cast fake votes. There is a possibility that the votes of the deceased might be manipulated in the upcoming election. For this reason, a symbolic oath was recited to ensure that deceased persons do not rise from their graves to cast votes.

They further said that investigation officers often witness deceased individuals running away after throwing cocktails. This behaviour constitutes disrespect and mockery towards those who have passed away, as well as a joke on their families, and must be stopped.

Among others, the oath and leaflet distribution event was attended by metropolitan BNP leaders S M Abdur Rahman, Sher Alam, Badrul Anam Khan, Masud Parvez, Sheikh Sadi, Chowdhury Hasanur Rashid, and Md Jahid Hossain.
