Awami League leader Syed Faizul Amir Litu, an independent candidate for Narail-2 (Truck symbol), quit the national election race on Wednesday.
He was considered the main rival of Awami League-nominated candidate and sitting MP Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
Litu at a press conference held at his residence said he withdrew his candidacy completely voluntarily, announcing his retirement from politics.
“I am physically unfit to participate in the election. Besides, my family members do not want me to contest the election anymore.”
Former general secretary of Lohagara Upazila Awami League and former Upazila chairman Syed Faizul Amir Litu urged his activists to work for Mashrafe to avoid any conflict within the party.
“Mashrafe has my full support. I urge my followers and supporters to vote for Boat.”
