The election inquiry committee has issued a show-cause letter to the Comilla City Corporation (COCC) Chief Executive Officer Md Shamsul Alam for violating the electoral code of conduct by seeking votes for the Awami League MP nominated candidate in Comilla-6 constituency.

Joint District Judge Md Siraj Uddin Iqbal sent the show-cause letter on Monday.

According to the notice, Anjum Sultana Seema, an independent candidate, filed the complaint against the CEO.

According to the complaint, despite holding the position of CEO, Shamsul Alam allegedly sought votes for the boat symbol at Comilla Collectorate School and College on December 27.

Moreover, the complaint said that he has been actively engaging in campaigning for the Boat symbol at various government educational institutions, even those currently closed.

Regarding the complaint, the COCC CEO said: “I am a government official. Why am I going to ask for a Boat symbol vote? These allegations are baseless.”

He said: “I still haven’t received a copy of the show-cause letter. I can tell you the details after getting the copy.”
