Independent candidate's activist show-caused in Chittagong-3

  • Breach of the electoral code of conduct 
  • EC committee found the activist manipulating the independent candidate

The Electoral Inquiry Committee on Monday served a show-cause notice to Zafar Ullah Titu, an activist of an independent candidate of the Chittagong-3 (Sandwip upazila) constituency Dr Md Jamaluddin Chowdhury for breaching the electoral code of conduct.

According to the notice, signed by the chairman of the Committee for the constituency and Chittagong Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahidul Islam, the activists of the independent candidate Dr Md Jamaluddin Chowdhury brought out a procession at Kalapani union of Sandwip upazila on Saturday.

During the procession----Titu through a loudspeaker said: “I am a supporter of Awami League and already Awami League won the election as there is no rival candidate in 167 parliamentary seats against Awami League. So Awami League is forming the next government.”

The EC committee found him using evil tactics to influence the independent candidate and trying to foil the 12th national parliamentary elections through the statement.

The accused candidate was asked to respond in person or by his representative at 6:05pm on January 2.
