Two jailed, two fined for electoral code of conduct violations in Gazipur

A mobile court has jailed two people and fined two others for violating the electoral code of conduct in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur.

Kaliganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Umme Hafsa Nadia's mobile court sentenced them on Saturday night.

She said a raid was conducted in the Sawraid sand field of the constituency due to the complaints of obstructing the election campaign and tearing down the posters of the rival candidate of Gazipur-5. 

Following an investigation, Awami League activist Shamsul Alam, 46, member of Moktarpur Union Parishad, was fined Tk30,000 while independent candidate and former UP member Salim Sheikh, 38, was fined Tk5,000.

At the same time, two activists of Awami League, Shafiqul Islam Khandakar, 40, and Taifur Rahman Morsalin, 42, were sentenced to 15 days in jail for disobeying the administration's ban.

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahtab Uddin said that the convicts were sent to prison on Sunday.
