Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League leaders and activists have decided to extend their support and participate in all activities, including the election campaign, for Jatiya Party Chairman and candidate for Rangpur-3 constituency GM Quader.
In addition, party leaders and activists will participate in the campaign to vote for the Plough symbol.
The announcement came after a closed-door meeting with Awami League leaders at GM Quader's ancestral home in the city's New Senpara at 11:30am on Saturday.
JaPa Chairman GM Quader told reporters that his talks with metropolitan Awami League leaders had been successful and that the leaders and activists at all levels would cooperate with him.
Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League convener Dr Delwar Hossain confirmed the matter.
The leaders and activists of the metropolitan Awami League at all levels decided to support the Plough candidate and take part in the election campaign on behalf of JaPa candidate GM Quader, he said.
Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League Joint Convenor Abul Kashem said Awami League candidate Tushar Kanti Mandal has withdrawn his candidature at the party's directive. “So we decided to support GM Quader.”
