AL leader faces case for death threats in Manikganj-2

A case has been filed against the vice president of Manikganj’s Singair upazila unit of Awami League, for allegedly threatening to shoot an independent candidate's workers if they did not cast their votes in the Manikganj-2 constituency. 

The upazila Election Officer Shariful Islam filed the case against Ali Iskander on Thursday.

MP Momtaz Begum held election meetings in different places in Singair on Wednesday afternoon with Ali Iskander. 

According to the case statement, some activists of independent candidate Dewan Zahid Ahmed were distributing posters seeking votes for the Truck symbol.

At that time, Ali Iskander allegedly threatened the independent candidate's activists with various threats, including cutting off their hands. He also said he would push the workers “under a truck” and shoot them.

Election Officer Shariful Islam a video of the incident went viral on social media and it has created panic among voters.

Singair police station Inspector (Investigation) Manvendra Balo said: "Efforts are on to arrest the accused.”

The 12th national polls is scheduled to be held on January 7.
