Awami League candidate for Manikganj-2 constituency singer Momtaz Begum held a public rally with Singair Upazila Awami League Vice President Ali Eskandar on the stage on Wednesday.

A day earlier, Eskandar had threatened supporters of independent candidate Zahid Ahmed Tulu, saying that he would sever the wrists of those choosing not to vote for Boat in the January 7 polls.

He said that he would even shoot the voters if they did not vote for the Awami League candidate in Manikganj-2.

Local member of parliament (MP) Momtaz held her electoral rally in Islam Nagar village of Talebpur Union Parishad.

At a press conference yesterday, independent candidate Zahid Ahmed Tulu, contesting the polls with the Truck symbol, alleged that Momtaz’s supporter Eskandar had issued death threats to his supporters. He said that Eskandar has vowed to prevent Tulu from continuing campaigning.

Tulu alleged that when his supporter Abdur Razzak was seeking votes for him in Irta village on Tuesday, the Awami League leader came and issued the threats. Apart from this, supporters of the Boat candidates have beaten up Truck supporters, the independent candidate further alleged.

Commenting on the allegations, Momtaz said her posters were torn apart on several occasions, and one of her electoral camps was set ablaze by miscreants. She said that both parties are going through such situations, which she does not appreciate or expect.

On the allegations against Eskandar, the MP said if someone had issued threats, then it was his or her responsibility.
