Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana said on Sunday that intimidating voters during the election is a punishable offence.
“There have been attempts in the past to collect votes by intimidating voters. There was no punishment then. The Election Commission has made provisions to ensure punishment for such acts,” the commissioner told the media after meeting with candidates, law enforcement, and presiding officers at the Naogaon deputy commissioner's office.
Rashida urged voters to file complaints to law enforcement agencies if anyone tries to threaten them in the dark of night.
“The Election Commission has taken necessary steps so that people can cast their votes peacefully.”
