Update : 23 Dec 2023, 04:34 PM

The Election Inquiry Committee has served a show-cause notice to Awami League candidate Chayan Islam on charge of threatening the agents of Halimul Haque Miru, an independent candidate of Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur) constituency.

Sirajganj-6 Constituency Election Inquiry Committee Officer Joint District and Sessions Judge Md Mamun-ur-Rashid issued the notice on Friday.

According to the notice, Halimul Haque Miru, an independent candidate for Sirajganj-6, filed a written complaint against Chayan Islam.

Upazila Awami League committee member Nazrul Islam threatened not to allow the Eagle symbol’s polling agents to be present at the centre on election day and instructed the activists and supporters to oppose the Eagle symbol candidate Halimul Haque Miru in a harsh, provocative, and defamatory manner in Dariapur on Thursday evening.

Chayan Islam has until 11:30am on December 24 to give a justification why the Election Commission will not take disciplinary action for violating the code of conduct.

Former mayor and current Upazila Awami League member Nazrul Islam said that Miru will face resistance if he appears in Dariapur. He has no right to hold elections in Shahjadpur. He is a well-known murderer. We didn't have much power when we were with the BNP. Situations dictate what has to be done when.
