The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned the carrying and displaying of firearms till 9 January, for the upcoming 12th national polls.
The ban was announced in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Division on Friday.
The gazette notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the ministry Israt Jahan stated that to conduct the 12th national parliamentary election in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, license holders will not be permitted to display or carry firearms until January 9.
Violations of the order would result in legal actions according to The Arms Act, 1878.
The 12th national parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on January 7, 2024.
