Two Awami League aspirants Shammi Ahmed in Barisal-4 seat, Shamim Haque in Faridupur-3 seat and independent candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah in Barisal-5 seat, have filed separate writ petitions in the High Court (HC) challenging the Election Commission's (EC) decision to cancel their candidature.
Shammi Ahmed and Shamim Haque filed the writs with the High Court bench of Justice Md Iqbal Kabir and Justice SM Moniruzzaman on Sunday.
On the other hand, Sadiq Abdullah filed his writ with a bench consisting of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman and Justice Md Bashir Ullah.
The EC on Friday declared invalid the candidacy of two Awami League aspirants Shammi Ahmed, Shamim Haque and independent candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah in Barisal-5 seat, on grounds of having dual citizenship.
