Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said no anti-election activities will be allowed centring Victory Day.
"According to a notification from the Election Commission, no activities against the polls are allowed. No such activities should be conducted on Victory Day,” he made comments after laying a wreath at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Memorial in Dhaka on Saturday.
“We are not prohibiting anyone from celebrating Victory Day. In this case, the BNP should act prudently to avoid obstruction or anti-election propaganda. The party has been advised to provide a roadmap of where and how they will celebrate the day. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner has given them instructions to conclude their programs peacefully," he added.
The home minister further said: "We achieved victory on this day. To observe this day with due dignity, we have organized various programs from the morning.”
The Victory Day is a national holiday. It is celebrated on December 16 every year to commemorate the victory of Bangladesh against the Pakistani occupation forces in the Liberation War in 1971.
The Pakistani occupation army surrendered to the joint forces of Bangladesh and India ending the ninth-month blood-stained Liberation War to make Bangladesh an independent state.
Along with the government, different socio-political, educational and cultural institutions and organizations have chalked out a series of programs to celebrate the day.
