The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Ministry of Public Administration to transfer the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of all upazilas across Bangladesh ahead of the 12th national parliamentary election scheduled for January 7.
A letter signed by Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman of the commission was sent to the senior secretary of the public administration ministry on Thursday in this regard.
The Election Commission has decided to transfer the UNOs of all upazilas, who have completed one year of service, in order to conduct the upcoming election smoothly, reads the letter.
The Election Commission asked to submit the transfer proposals by December 5.
There are over 495 upazilas in 64 districts.
The 12th parliamentary election will be held on January 7 (Sunday) as per the polls schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on November 15.
