Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Thursday said the government has already proved its sincerity for participatory polls.
Hanif said he did not understand why someone would think about a fresh polls schedule when the BNP did not want to join the polls at all.
“Only the EC can say whether there is a need for any fresh schedule as the schedule for the 12th parliamentary polls has already been announced,” he told reporters outside the local Election Commission (EC) office in Kushtia after submitting his nomination paper for the Kushtia-3 constituency.
He said AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has several times urged all the political parties to join the polls. The party wants a participatory election.
The country’s president also invited the parties for talks, but a number of them did not respond to the call. “If anyone decides against joining the polls, then it is their democratic right,” Hanif said.
