Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been picked by the Awami League to run for the Rangpur-6 constituency in the upcoming 12th national polls.
The decision was announced by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday.
The national polls is scheduled to be held on January 7.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is a Bangladeshi politician who has served as the first female speaker of the Parliament since April 2013.
At 46 years of age, she became the youngest to assume the office.
She previously served as the state minister of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh.
