The sale of Awami League's party nomination forms for the 12th national parliamentary election concluded with 1,212 nomination forms sold at the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue from 10am-5pm on Sunday.
On the first day (Saturday), 1,074 forms were sold. Awami League earned Tk11.43 crore by selling 2,286 forms in two days.
Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua informed reporters that 1,180 forms were sold directly from the booth on Sunday, with 32 forms sold online. The total income is Tk6.6 crore, with Tk5.90 crore collected directly and Tk16 lakh through online sales.
He mentioned that from morning to 5pm, 270 forms were sold in Dhaka Division, 231 in Chittagong Division, 12 in Mymensingh Division, 63 in Sylhet Division, 165 in Khulna Division, 90 in Barisal Division, 140 in Rajshahi Division, and 108 in Rangpur Division.
Although slightly less than the first day, a crowd of Awami League nominees gathered on the second day. Aspirants came to the party office with followers to buy the nomination form, resulting in long lines. Supporters were seen shouting various slogans during the crowded scenes.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader faced difficulty entering the central office due to the crowd of party nominees and their supporters. Witnesses reported that Obaidul Quader attempted to enter the office at least three times but couldn't navigate through the crowd.
On Saturday at 10:30am, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina initiated the process by collecting nomination forms. A total of 1,074 people collected nomination forms on the first day, with 1,064 obtaining forms directly and 10 through online means. The party's income on the first day was Tk5.37 crore.
Ten booths for eight departments were set up at the party's office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, facilitating the sale of forms. The process will continue until the next Tuesday.
This time, the price of the Awami League party nomination form has been set at Tk50,000, and the party will finalize candidates for the 300 seats after the nomination board concludes the sale of forms.
