Awami League has informed the Election Commission (EC) that it will participate as both – a single party and part of a coalition – in the 12th National Parliamentary Elections.

Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua gave this information to journalists at the Awami League's central office in Dhaka on Saturday.

Barua said: "We have submitted a letter to the Election Commission outlining our intent. In that communication, we specified that the Awami League will engage in the elections through two avenues - independently and as part of a coalition. The deadline for the withdrawal of nominations is set for December 17."

Approximately 350 nomination forms were sold in the first two hours of sales. Meanwhile, forms have been collected, Gopalganj-3 for party president Sheikh Hasina and Noakhali-5 for general secretary Obaidul Quader.

Those seeking party nominations will be able to collect and submit nomination papers from November 18-21. The party authorities will extend the time if necessary.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the sale of party nomination forms for the 12th parliamentary elections on Saturday morning.

Central leaders including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader were present at this time.
