Attorney General AM Amin Uddin has said that the dialogue between political parties is not connected to the election schedule as the authorities must prepare for the election within January as per the constitution.
He said: “The dialogue has nothing to do with the election schedule. The constitution stipulates that the elections must take place in January. Therefore, the schedule should be announced soon.”
AM Amin Uddin said this while talking to reporters at his Supreme Court’s office on Tuesday afternoon.
The attorney general said in accordance with the constitution, the Election Commission's duty is to announce the schedule and ensure that the elections are conducted correctly. They must keep time set aside in case one or more by-elections are required for whatever reason. That ought to be finished during this time as well.
The schedule will be announced at a specific time. There is no connection between the dialogue and the election schedule. Dialogue can take place at any moment, he added.
