  • Disappointed at parties not willing to participate
Update : 26 Oct 2023, 02:35 PM

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that the conducive environment expected for the upcoming national parliamentary election has not yet been achieved.

"We are sincerely committed to resolving any crisis that may arise. We hope to proceed with the election, but the conducive environment we anticipated from the beginning has not materialized," he said at the onset of a workshop with media editors on Thursday.

He emphasized the necessity of a favourable atmosphere for the elections and highlighted his continuous efforts towards this goal, including dialogues and official communications.

However, he expressed disappointment over the lack of response from parties not willing to participate.

"The political strategies of the parties are their own matter. They may have their reasons, and we will not interfere unjustly," he added.

The workshop was attended by other election commissioners, senior officials from the Election Commission, and prominent media editors such as Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury from Observer, Mahfuz Anam from Daily Star, Saiful Alam from Jugantar, and Naeem Nizam from Bangladesh Daily.
