The government has formed a committee comprising the ministries of information, law and foreign affairs to counter pre-election propaganda.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Seheli Sabrin revealed the information while replying to a question at a weekly briefing on Thursday.
She said the foreign ministry had long been working on this issue. “Our missions abroad uphold the country’s position along with the host countries against any disinformation and misinformation.”
“We think we need to work in a more proactive way,” the spokesperson said, as there might be more propaganda ahead of the general election – scheduled to be held by January – and the committee had been formed to combat them.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen directed all the Bangladesh missions abroad to take measures to counter propaganda against Bangladesh and the government.
He exchanged views with local experts last week.
They suggested the government identify the points from where disinformation and anti-Bangladesh propaganda were being spread.
Former National Human Rights Commission chairman Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman advised the government to focus on London, Brussels and Washington to check propaganda.
