Netrokona-4 by-polls: AL candidate Sajjadul Hasan declared winner unopposed

Awami League candidate former senior secretary Sajjadul Hasan has been declared winner unopposed for the by-polls to Netrokona-4.   

Returning officer and Mymensingh regional election officer Mohammd Belayet Hossain Chowdhury declared an unofficial victory for Sajjadul Hasan on Monday afternoon.

According to the district election office in Netrokona, no candidate except Sajjadul Hasan submitted nomination for contesting the by-election in Netrakona-4.

As per the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination was July 25 while Monday was the last day for scrutiny of nominations, appeal and withdrawal of candidature.

Sajjadul Hasan is a member of the information and research sub-committee of the Awami League central committee. 

His father late Akhlakul Hossain Ahmed was a companion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

In the 1970 elections, Bangabandhu nominated Mohanganj and Barhatta constituencies and became a member of the Provincial Council. Sajjadul Hasan's elder brother is Justice Obaidul Hassan of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The by-polls for the Netrakona-4 parliamentary seat, which fell vacant following the death of its previous incumbent, Rebecca Momin, was set to be held on September 2.
