Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has reaffirmed the party's commitment to holding national elections in accordance with the rules defined in the constitution, saying the prime minister's resignation to make way for a caretaker government would be a violation of the constitution.
He made these remarks during a secretary-level meeting of Awami League held at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday.
Quader said that Awami League would not allow anyone's ambitions to supersede the constitution's principles.
He addressed the demand of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, emphasizing that such a demand would amount to a gross violation of the constitution, and Awami League cannot endorse any actions that breach the constitutional framework.
Describing the opposing forces as communal and evil, Quader highlighted their affiliation with countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, which he claimed are supporting militancy. He vowed that Awami League would never submit to such forces and will stand firm against them.
The meeting was attended by prominent Awami League leaders, including Matia Chowdhury, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Kazi Zafrullah, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Kamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Afzal Hossain, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, and Science and Technology Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, among others.
