Pre-polls violence: College student stabbed dead during Pabna clash

A college student was killed and several others injured in a clash between supporters of rival candidates of Pabna's Chartarapur union parishad (UP) polls.
The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old college student Mohammad Nasim.
Police have detained three people, including the incumbent UP Chairman Rabiul Haque Tutul, who is contesting the upcoming elections with the Awami League’s ticket and Sujanagar municipality unit Awami League President Ferdous Alam Firoz.
Quoting witnesses, police said that the clash broke out between the supporters of Rabiul and independent candidate Siddiqur Rahman. Nasim was allegedly recording the incident on his phone when he was stabbed. Others who attempted to save Nasim were also injured.
Locals and police rushed them to Pabna General Hospital, where Nasim was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Independent candidate Siddiqur claimed Nasim to be one of his supporters, but the victim’s family dismissed it.
Officer-in-charge Aminul Islam of Pabna sadar police station said the body had been kept in Pabna General Hospital's morgue. Legal action will be taken after an autopsy.
