A clash broke out between supporters of two councillor candidates during the Rajshahi City Corporation election, at noon on Wednesday.
Law enforcement officers rushed to the spot soon after to bring the situation under control.
One of the candidates, Ruhul Amin Tuku, said his rival Ashraful Islam Babu's supporters had launched an attack with locally made weapons to thwart voting.
Some of his men had sustained injuries, Tuku claimed.
“The voters at the centre panicked and left the place. There is a tense situation here right now.”
Dhaka Tribune could not reach Babu for comment.
