Municipality polls: Voting underway in Cox's Bazar

Seven platoons of BGB troops, 12 RAB teams, and 790 policemen have been deployed

Voting has begun for Cox's Bazar Municipality polls on Monday through electronic voting machines (EVMs). 

The voting began from 8am, and will continue till 4pm. 

Cox's Bazar district Returning Officer SM Shahadat Hossain said three judicial magistrates are on duty in 12 wards for free, fair and impartial elections. 

Apart from that, a total of 15 magistrates, seven platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troops, 12 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) teams, and 790 policemen have been deployed, he added.

The official also stated that there are a total 245 polling booths in 45 centres.

“Each centre and room will be supervised by CCTV cameras,” said Election Officer and Returning Officer SM Shahadat Hossain.

 The total number of voters in the 12 wards of the municipality is 94,802 people. 

Among them, 49,879 are men and 44,923 are women voters.
