Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has administered the oath of office to newly elected Gaibandha-5 MP Mahmud Hasan.
On Tuesday, the swearing-in ceremony was held at the Parliament Secretariat. KM Abdus Salam, secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, conducted the program.
The by-election to Gaibandha-5 was held on January 4 as the seat had became vacant following the death of the former deputy speaker Adv Fazle Rabbi Mia.
Awami League candidate Mahmud Hasan won by a huge margin in the election. He got 78,285 votes while his nearest rival Ghulam Shahid Ranju of Jatiya Party (JaPa) got 44,752 votes.
After taking the oath, Mahmud Hasan signed the oath book as per the tradition.
Senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present at the time.
