The polling for the Zilla Parishad elections in Joypurhat ended an hour late after the scheduled time due to fingerprint mismatch.
Complications arose after 79 out of 80 voters had casted their votes. Election officials could not match the finger of a voter even after hundreds of attempts at the polling station of Akkelpur upazila parishad of Joypurhat.
The polling Presiding and Upazila Agriculture Officer Imran Hossain confirmed that the matter, adding that the person who faced this problem was Salim Reza Badsha. He is a member of ward number 7 of Tilakpur union.
Later, the election officials resorted to the Election Commission. The person was able to cast his vote after receiving the pin code from the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, another voter named Named Sajeda Begum, a member of ward number 4 of Khetlal upazila of the district, faced the same issue.
Polling in the upazila was supposed to end at 2pm but it ended at 3pm.
Despite the fingerprint complications, the Zilla Parishad elections in Joypurhat ended peacefully. Adequate security arrangements were in place at five polling stations, informed the Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Shariful Islam.
