Narayanganj lawmaker Shamim Osman’s press conference over the upcoming city corporation polls is a violation of the electoral code of conduct, but “not a punishable offence”, says the chief election commissioner.
CEC KM Nurul Huda’s remarks came on Wednesday during a views exchange meeting with election officials in Narayanganj ahead of the January 16 voting.
He said that law enforcers have been instructed to take strict measures in thwarting untoward incidents in the city corporation area ahead of the elections.
Shamim Osman on Monday held a press conference in the city and announced his support for the Awami League’s mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy.
He said that no one will be allowed to play with the interest of the people in Narayanganj and that the city has always been a den for Boat supporters.
