The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) elections are set to be held across 155 polling centres, among which the Election Commission has marked 148 as important (risky) and seven as highly important (high-risk).
It has been informed that measures have been taken to avoid any undesired incidents at these locations.
RCC Election Returning Officer Md Delwar Hossain said that preparations are underway to ensure peaceful voting with increased vigilance from law enforcement agencies at these polling stations.
Additionally, CCTV cameras are being installed at these locations which will allow Election Commission officials in Dhaka to directly monitor the voting process, he said.
In case of any disorder, voting at the affected station will be immediately halted, he added.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Anisur Rahman said that every polling station is important on election day, but some are of more significance.
Six to seven police officers will be deployed at each of the high-risk centres, in addition to Ansar members fulfilling duties at each station, he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Riaz Shahriar, commanding officer of RAB-5, said that the RAB has already been deployed to the election grounds.
“On election day, 250 RAB members will be present as a striker force. They will rush to any scene of disorder and restore control. Furthermore, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will also be on the grounds,” he added.
The Rajshahi City Corporation elections will be held on Wednesday, with a total of 352,157 voters, including 30,157 new voters.
Among the voters, 171,185 are men and 180,972 are women.
Voting will take place in 1,153 booths across 155 centres using electronic voting machines (EVMs).
