Taimur alleges EVM rigging, says no more polls under the current government

Taimur termed the EVMs as vote stealing boxes

Update : 17 Jan 2022, 08:25 PM

Independent mayoral candidate for Narayanganj city polls, Taimur Alam Khandaker has refused to participate in any more polls under the incumbent government alleging vote rigging through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

“All the political parties that did not contest the polls under the current regime were justified,” he told the media on Monday.

“No polls under this government and EVMs will be fair. It’s all controlled from Ganabhaban (the prime minister’s residence) and Bangabhaban (the president’s residence),” the ousted BNP politician alleged.

Taimur called on everyone to not vote through EVMs, saying: “I have said it before, I will say it now. EVMs are nothing but vote stealing boxes.”

The defeated mayoral candidate said that not only were the EVMs slow on the day of the polls, people got tired of waiting and left without casting their mandate.

“The machines froze or did not even run at certain centres,” he claimed.

Taimur Alam Khandaker lost the mayoral run to Selina Hyat Ivy, who is set to return for a third term.

Ivy bagged 159,397 votes while Taimur, her closest rival, secured 92,562 votes.
