Dhaka University Students Welfare Association of Lakshmipur (Duswal) has recently launched its official website, du-lakshmipur.org, aimed to enhance communication among its members and alumni.
Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, pro-vice chancellor (education) of the university, on September 19 inaugurated the website through a virtual program as chief guest, while Dhaka University Central Students' Union Member Tanbir Hasan Shaikat was special guest, said a press release.
Duswal President Rashed Hossain and General Secretary Md Ali Mamun were also present in the event.
Prof Maksud Kamal appreciated the initiatives of the organization and praised its office bearers for coming up with such innovative ideas.
"University students should not be confined to books which are taught in the classroom. Rather, they should become complete human beings, for which extra-curricular activities or social works are important," said the pro-vice chancellor.
Duswal's activities especially in Covid-19 pandemic crisis set an example for other student organizations, he added.
Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, also former Duswal president, said that the organization arranged the writing competition such a time when students were passing lazy time staying at home thanks to university closure.
He hoped the organization would continue its role to keep bonding among the Dhaka University students from Lakshmipur and would always beside the students in need.
The student body earlier introduced free telemedicine service for the residences of Lakshmipur during the Covid-19 outbreak, helped its members who needed financial support, conducted campaigns for building Covid-19 awareness and arranged career development-based webinars as well.
