The ruling Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls, Atiqul Islam—contesting using the boat symbol— has started electioneering in Dhaka's Mirpur area.
Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami Swechasebak League, Sramik League— along with the members of other wing organizations—were present during his campaign around 12:00pm on Monday.
Atiqul urged the local voters to vote for “The Boat” in the upcoming DNCC by-poll—which is scheduled to be held on Thursday, February 28—so that he and his party get the opportunity to serve the people of Dhaka North City.
He also held rallies in different areas of Mirpur, Dhaka.
Leaders and activist of the ruling party told the Dhaka Tribune that they are getting a very positive response from the public for the upcoming DNCC by-polls.
Notably, Atiqul Islam was the president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
