The student wing of BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), is rigid with its demand for postponing elections to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) by three months to ensure a stable and congenial political environment on campus.
JCD General Secretary made the demand in a press conference held at the university’s historic Madhur canteen on Sunday.
“We want to make the political co-existence stable on campus for which the election conducting body must be reformed as it is now made up of some blue panel teachers,” said JCD General Secretary Akramul Hasan.
“We didn’t come to campus for the last eight years. As we have just started to come, we couldn't run our activities for a long time, so we need some time to prepare ourselves,” he added.
He also urged the authorities to take immediate measures to implement their seven point demand submitted to the vice-chancellor and to ensure setting up of polling centres at academic buildings instead of residential halls.

Meanwhile, Progressive Students’ Alliance, a platform of Left leaning student organizations and the Anti-Imperialism Students Alliance, jointly announced a siege of the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday, to materialize the demand for setting polling booths outside the halls.
Iqbal Kabir, President of Biplobi Chhatro Moitry, read out a written statement and declared the siege program.
Talking to journalists, Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary, Golam Rabbani, said: “Our leader (Sheikh Hasina) knows very well who needs to be nominated from the Chhatra League panel. Being the best decision maker of the world, she will let us know her decision after returning from Germany.”
Addressing the Prime Minister as the best decision maker of the world he added: “She will let us know her decision after returning from Germany.”
The Dhaka University authority announced the Ducsu election as well as hall union polls would be held on March 11 this year, which was defunct for 29 years.
