The ruling Awami League will start the sale of nomination forms on Monday among those who want to contest under the party banner in the first phase of upazila elections slated for March 10.
Party aspirants will be able to collect the forms from Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office in the Dhanmondi area in Dhaka, said a party press release on Sunday.
The sale of nomination forms started at 10am on Monday.
The last date for submitting nomination papers is February 11, while that of withdrawal is February 19.
According to the Election Commission, election in 87 upazila parishads will be held on March 10 in the first phase.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed unveiled the schedule for the first phase of the upazila election at a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka’s Agargaon area on Sunday.
Preiously, the commission had said the fifth upazila parishad election would be held in five phases from March. In 2014, polls in 487 upazilas were held in six phases between February and May of the year.
According to electoral law, the election of any upazila council has to take place at least six months before the tenure of the local government body expires.
