There will be no alliance between Awami League and any other party during the upcoming upazila parishad elections.
"We won't go into the polls as part of any alliance," the party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday, reports UNB.
He was presiding over a meeting of Awami League's Dhaka North unit, held at the party president's Dhanmondi office.
The Awami League, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, won an overwhelming majority in the December 30 national election. The ruling party-led alliance secured 96% seats in the 300-member parliament, while opposition BNP and its allies won only eight seats.
The upazila parishad elections, coming shortly after the parliamentary polls, will be a test of popularity for the political parties.
Quader said heads of the party's upazila and district units would suggest three possible candidates, and the party's upazila election nomination board will pick one of them.
