Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed said that the army has been successful in gaining the confidence of the people as they properly performed their duties during the 11th general election.
He made the observation after inaugurating the construction works of three schools and colleges inside Jalsiri Housing Project at Purbachal on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
"The army devotedly carried out their task by conducting over one thousand patrols across the country each day. Being assured of their safety, people cast their votes," he said.
General Aziz said that though some casualties were reported on the election day, the general people were safe.
On December 24, the army was deployed throughout the country to maintain law and order during the national election.
From the day of deployment, the members of the army conducted regular patrols in their respective areas as a striking force till January 1.
