Jatiya Oikya Front has called upon the Election Commission to void the results of the 11th general polls, and demanded a fresh election under a non-partisan government.
During a briefing on Sunday evening at Dhaka’s Bailey Road, the platform’s chief Dr Kamal Hossain said: “More than 100 Oikya Front candidates have boycotted the election midway, sensing vote dacoity.”
“In these circumstances, we are demanding a fresh election under a non-partisan government and an impartial Election Commission.”
“We will soon issue a letter to Election Commission, seeking re-election under a non-partisan government,” the eminent jurist told reporters.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was also present alongside Dr Kamal, said: “This is cruel mockery to the democracy.”
Defending BNP’s decision not to participate in the previous polls, the top BNP spokesperson said this election is a reflection that not taking part in the 10th general election was “not a mistake.”
“No fair election is possible under the current government,” he claimed.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, a key member of the Jatiya Oikya Front, said they will sit with the alliance steering committee by 12pm Monday and will decide on further action.
