Update : 30 Dec 2018, 01:08 PM

Independent candidate in Dhaka 1 constituency Salma Islam has withdrawn herself from the 11th general election.

At a press conference held around noon on Sunday, she accused her rival Awami League candidate Salman F Rahman’s people of vote rigging and asked the Election Commission to postpone voting.

She also claimed that she had been unableto deploy her polling agents at 150 polling centres since the morning, and that the rest of her agents had been driven out of the other centres by 11am.

The Dhaka 1 (Dohar-Nawabganj) seat has 178 voting centres.

“The Awami League candidate’s people are stuffing ballot boxes. I have no agents representing me at the centres. The local administration is also helping them,” she alleged at the briefing held at her house.

She said she decided to boycott the vote out of consideration for the security of her supporters and locals.
