3 held for arson attack on Bagerhat AL election office

Police have detained three suspects in connection with the torching of an Awami League election office in Bagerhat.

The incident took place in the Sonatunia bus stand area of Rampal upazila on Thursday night. The three detained suspects are Quader, 50; Mujibar, 40; and Rezaul, 35.

Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek visited the scene on Friday morning.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Ujolkur union Ward 9 Jubo League President Md Ahad Sheikh said: “The Awami League election office, which was originally a local Jubo League office, was torched around 12am.

“Locals saw the flames and quickly doused them. Later, Mongla fire service department and Rampal police arrived at the scene.”

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Rampal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfur Rahman said: “An Awami League election office was torched on Thursday night. Police detained three people for their suspected involvement in the incident.

“The police are in the process of filing a case.”
