Bangladesh national cricket team’s ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortuza, who is contesting the 11th parliamentary elections on Awami League ticket from Narail-2 constituency, on Thursday, urged the people to vote for ‘boat’ and keep confidence in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“I call upon all, including the people of my constituency, to cast votes for ‘boat’, the election symbol of Awami League, and keep confidence in Prime Minister,” he said.
Sitting next to the prime minister at her Dhanmondi residence, the star cricketer was addressing a rally in Narail through a videoconferencing Thursday afternoon
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina also addressed the rally, held at Lohagara Pilot High School field from Shuda Sadan.
Mashrafe said, “Our prime minister will present a more developed and prosperous Bangladesh Insha Allah if Awami League is elected again.”
Mashrafe expressed his gratitude to the Awami League president for nominating him to vie for December 30 polls.

He also appreciated the Awami League leaders and workers of Narail for working in unison on his behalf and said that he will join the campaign with them soon.
“You know that I’ve sustained a leg injury and I am receiving treatment for it … I will join you in my campaign as soon as possible after completing my treatment,” he said.
“I’m a son of Narail … you’ll consider this, so that Awami League could be reelected in the upcoming elections,” Mashrafe told the Narail people.
PM: ‘Mashrafe is a piece of diamond’
Addressing the voters of Narail, Sheikh Hasina sought votes for Mashrafee, describing him as a ‘piece of diamond’.
She expressed optimism that the Narail people will vote for Mashrafe, while successfully reelecting Awami League to power.
“Mashrafee is ‘a piece of diamond’. People all over the world admire him. I know he will do well both in the cricket field and in Narail.”
“I was once the MP of Narail, I consider it to be my own district. If Awami League is victorious in the election, the government will work towards further developing the Narail district,” said the prime minister.
