Police on Wednesday arrested six leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its youth wing Jubo Dal in connection with the murder of a Jubo League leader in the Noakhali Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The arrested are president Subarnachar upazila unit Jubo Dal Nizam Uddin Faruk, its Organising Secretary Ibrahim Khalil, Jubo Dal activists Mohammad Ali, Nasir Uddin, Mohi Uddin and BNP activist Nuruzzaman.
They were arrested in separate drives in the Sadar and Subarnachar upazilas in the afternoon, said Md Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Sudharam Model police station.
Police said Md Hanif, 24, general secretary of Ward-9 Jubo League in the Noakhali's Aujbalia union, was killed in a clash that ensued after BNP men attacked an Awami League procession in the district.

Anwar Hossain said BNP men opened fire and sprayed pepper powder on an AL procession in Noakhali's Nurupaturiahat area around 6:00pm, leading to a clash.
Hanif, hacked and later shot in the leg and his head was badly bashed on the ground.
He was taken to the Noakhali General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.
Two Jubo League and Awami League leaders were killed in Noakhali and Faridpur and at least 72 people injured across the country as violence broke out on Tuesday, the second day of election campaign.
