On the last day of hearing appeals by the Election Commission (EC), the candidature of previously rejected BNP nominee Afroza Abbas for Dhaka 9 has been declared valid on Saturday.
The EC also rejected the candidature of BNP chairperson’s advisor Amanullah Aman for Dhaka 2, based on the arrest warrant against him in a case filed in 2017.
On Sunday, The nomination papers of BNP candidate Afroza Abbas – wife of former Dhaka city mayor Mirza Abbas – for Dhaka 9 constituency was rejected—because of her status as a loan defaulter.
Also on Sunday, Amanullah Aman and BNP Executive Committee member Nazimuddin Alam were detained from a building in Dhaka's Mohakhali DOHS area.
The two BNP leaders were arrested by team from RAB 1 when they were exiting the building at around 9pm, said RAB 1 Commanding Officer Sarwar Bin Kashem.
The commission has been holding hearings on 543 petitions filed over rejection and acceptance of nomination papers since Thursday. Saturday was the last day of the hearings.
