BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has announced that Jatiya Oikya Front will hold a public rally – at Suhrawardy Udyan – in Dhaka, at 2pm on Monday, December 10.
Rizvi announced this at a press conference – after a meeting at BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters – on Wednesday, at noon.
“The arrests of BNP members, nationwide, by law enforcement, are ongoing prior to the election; and the number of arrests has increased since nomination paper submissions began being accepted. As of yesterday, cases have been filed against 2000 activists,” he added.
He continued, “The government has locked up BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in jail, due to her immense popularity. They [the government] are trying to keep away our chairperson from the polls and are plotting a plan to cling onto power by creating a mockery of election.”
Rizvi furthered that democracy is now held captive and BNP, along with 20-Party Alliance and Jatiya Oikya Front, is trying to rescue it for the people of Bangladesh.
The senior BNP leader also demanded the immediate release of all arrested BNP leaders and activists.
