Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said the decision on the size of the election-time cabinet will be taken at a meeting on October 26.

A joint meeting of the Awami League central committee and its advisory parliamentary committees will be held on the day, Obaidul, also the party’s general secretary, said while briefing the reports at a press conference at his ministry’s meeting room in the Secretariat, reports BSS.

The minister said, if the current Cabinet is trimmed down, one or two new faces from the main opposition party might be added.

The size of the election-time Cabinet will be similar to that of the previous one, but a decision on the number of members in the election-time Cabinet is still undecided, Obaidul said.

The minister said every party would get equal opportunities for publicity and campaign in the participatory election.

The ministers of election-time Cabinet cannot use the national flag in vehicles in their own constituencies, but they can use it outside their constituencies, and security of the ministers will remain as before, Obaidul said.

The election pledges of Awami League will be disclosed after the meeting, he added.

Responding to a question on whether Barrister Mainul Hosein was arrested for joining Oikya Front, Obaidul said: “Mainul was arrested over his personal crime, not for his involvement in politics.”
