Update : 16 Sep 2018, 03:45 PM

The prime minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi has said that the upcoming general election will be fair and according to schedule – without any impediment.

"There is no doubt that the election will be held on time. There will be no barrier to any political party participating in the election," he said while addressing a discussion in Dhaka on Sunday.

The discussion, on "Bilateral Business and Trade Opportunities between Australia and Bangladesh," was organized by the Australia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ABCCI) at the LakeShore Hotel in Gulshan.

ABCCI also hosted a welcome reception for the new Australian high commissioner in Dhaka, Julia Niblett, there.

Rizvi said that Bangladesh would continue to have a strong society with political stability and maturing democratic institutions.

He said that the last 10 years have played a key role in Bangladesh’s social and economic growth and political stability.

Business policies and opportunities were foreseeable despite unpredictable election results, he added, urging Australian businesses and traders to invest in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin were also present at the event.
