For the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation election, 199 candidates have collected nomination papers, with five mayoral, 140 general ward councillor, and 54 reserved ward councillor nomination papers being taken.
Such were the numbers of potential nominees for each of the three posts until Thursday.
Senior election official for Sylhet district Md Alauddin Ahmed confirmed these facts, saying a drive was being conducted against those who broke rules to display posters, banners, festoons, and billboards at various locations. He also said the drive would continue to remain in effect.
According to the election schedule, candidates will be able to collect and submit nominations until 5pm on June 28.
The nominations will be scrutinized on July 1 and 2, and the final date for nomination cancellation is set to be July 9. The Sylhet City Corporation election will take place on July 30.
