Update : 01 Feb 2015, 12:27 PM

Urging not to halt down the educational life, students and teachers of nine schools of Chittagong have demanded to bring back the proper educational environment which is being ruined due to ongoing nonstop blockade and hartal.

They put the demand by forming separate human chains in front of their respective schools from 10am till 11am.

Students and teachers of Government Muslim High School, Chittagong Collegiate School, Chittagong Government High School, Nasirabad Government Boys’ High School, Dr Khastogir Government Girls’ High School, Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Government High School, Chittagong Government Girls’ High School, Bakalia Government High School and City Government Girls’ High School formed human chains at a time.

Holding placards saying “We do not want to be burnt in petrol”, “We want safety on the way to school” and same types of slogans, students of Nasirabad Government Boys’ High School’s students said nonstop blockade and hartal have brought a deadly experience in their day to day life as well as in their study life.

The school teachers and students said they are worst sufferers of this political violence.

School girls of Chittagong Government Girls High School, projecting posters writing with “We want to go to school safely”, “We want sit in exams safely” and some others, said they were worried about the SSC examination and other school and public examinations due to present condition of the country.

The female students said their commuting to school and home is not safe due to sudden sabotage by the miscreants while political movements turned into a curse for them.

Nasirabad Government Boys’ High School’s teacher Majibur Rahman, also the secretary general of Bangladesh Government Secondary Assistant Teachers’ Association, said the presence of students in the schools was 40-50% in the first month of the year as students could not come to school fearing sabotage during hartal and blockade hours.

“Blockade and hartal are hampering priceless time of students and teachers which would put negative impact in our educational system,” he said, adding guardians and students are worried about SSC exam’s schedule due to nonstop hartal and blockade.

“This situation cannot be continued. We want end of this situation. We want proper educational environment,” he added.
