The shuttle train service of Chittagong University resumed yesterday evening after being suspended since Wednesday morning fearing sabotage during the BNP-led 20-party alliance hartal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal student strike.
Chittagong city’s Sholoshahar Railway Station Master Md Sahabuddin told Dhaka Tribune that the trains started operating between the campus and the city around 4pm.
Earlier, Bangladesh Railway (BR) authorities suspended all the campus bound train schedules following a detective report which suggested that miscreants might carry out subversive activities on railways.
Meanwhile, teachers’ bus service also operated yesterday which was earlier suspended.
CU Proctor Siraj Ud Dowla said the presence of students at classes were very low and only a few departments took scheduled examinations. However, some miscreants locked the Agrani Bank branch at CU campus and the administrative building early yesterday.
CU Security Department In-Charge Bajal Haque said miscreants locked the main gate of the bank and administrative office at night. Authorities later opened the gates cutting off the lock. CU Police Outpost In-charge Inspector Abul Khair said the miscreants could not be identified yet. They were looking into the matter.
